Dawn Jian, a young artist from Guangzhou, China, graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Maryland Institute College of Art, a top-tier art school in the US. Their works range from installation art to painting and design, focusing on ephemerality and the integration of Eastern traditions with modern Western philosophy. Jian’s paintings are driven by an improvisational and ad hoc spirit in which many elements combine to create a complex image. Their work aims to explore dichotomies between the representational and the abstract, and asserting the importance of connection to nature, play, surprise, and experimentation.

In 2018, they were selected as one of 10 most noteworthy emerging artists native to China from the QingCun Art Foundation. Since then, they have exhibited widely in US and China. Jian’s art aims to invite people to pause for a moment to introspect and connect to themselves and the environment around them on a deeper level. Their project “PadaPagoda” was part of the 2023 Burning Man Arts and Music Festival. From 1000 applicants, they were one of 70 to receive an honorarium and was one of 10 projects selected to burn. Their piece “Rocker of Abundance” was a featured temporary installation at the Chinese Museum of America in San Francisco. Their rattan “Rocker of Reflection” is currently situated in Shimen High School in Guangzhou, China. Jian’s latest installation art project, “Fonte de Lotus,” can be seen in the Macau Sofitel lobby.
